Indian cutting-edge strategy and defense website issued a document on February 23rd, saying that Honeywell announced on February 22nd that its LTS101-700D-2 engine was selected by China Jingdezhen Changhe Aircraft Industry Group Company as the power of Z-11 helicopter, but did not disclose the specific details of the agreement.
The sales director of Honeywell revealed that in the first quarter of 2010, the newly produced LTS101-700D-2 engine will be provided to China. Zhi -11 is a multi-functional single-engine helicopter, which can be used for police and rescue, aerial reconnaissance, electronic information collection and border patrol, and the aircraft can also be used for export. After equipped with LTS101 engine, the power of Zhi -11 will increase by 7%, the fuel consumption will be reduced by 10%, and the operating cost will be reduced by 30%.
The foreign media article also mentioned that Changhe Aircraft Industry Group Corporation predicted that the domestic sales of Zhi -11 would exceed 300 in the next 5-10 years.
Honeywell’s LTS101-700D-2 engine is the latest model of LTS101 series, and the power used by European AS350 series helicopters is LTS101 engine.
As the first helicopter with independent intellectual property rights in China’s helicopter industry, Zhi-11 helicopter was developed in 1989, successfully made its first flight on December 22, 1994, and won the first prize of scientific and technological progress of the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense in October 2002. At present, it has developed a variety of models such as police, civil and military.
