Brief comment on Chery’s new 1.5T engine with new domestic thermal efficiency.
[Engine Technology] How to reduce fuel consumption? This problem is believed to be one of the performance parameters that many car companies and consumers are most concerned about. Indeed, lower fuel consumption can allow consumers to enjoy technology while also having a lower car cost. Whether it is new energy or various new engine technologies, many of them are born in pursuit of economy. So in this era when automobile engine technologies are in full bloom, it seems that they also have their own set of methods to "reduce engine consumption". How did they do it? Today, let’s take a brief look at Chery’s new 1.5T engine code-named SQRE4T15B.
First of all, about the detailed introduction of this engine, we will carry out the following details such as engine disassembly in the future. Today, let’s talk about a concept: thermal efficiency. What is thermal efficiency? Does an engine with high thermal efficiency necessarily have high output? In fact, in the engine theory, thermal efficiency generally refers to the ratio of mechanical energy converted by the engine to thermal energy generated after fuel combustion, so we can know from this formula that this data actually reflects the efficiency of converting fuel into mechanical energy, that is, the higher the thermal efficiency, the more mechanical energy can be converted under unit fuel consumption. In fact, this index has little correlation with power performance, and it reflects the conversion efficiency of fuel more than the output of the engine itself. This is like a person who eats very little, but absorbs enough, but this does not mean that he is a strong person. Do you understand this description?
So back to the theme, the engine we are going to talk about today is not really a new friend. It is an improved version of the Chery 1.5T engine code-named SQRE4T15. Although we haven’t learned in detail what the new engine has optimized, there is one technical parameter that is remarkable: the thermal efficiency reaches 37.1%. This index is even close to the thermal efficiency index of the previous generation internal combustion engine, which belongs to the highest thermal efficiency among domestic engines.
Like most China brands today, Chery has also equipped this new engine with many internationally renowned suppliers’ products. A simple inventory will reveal that it includes Honeywell’s turbocharger, BorgWarner’s timing chain structure, Scheaeffler’s valve train and so on.
At this stage, we know that this new engine not only has high thermal efficiency, but also will work with a 6-speed dual gearbox, becoming the mainstream powertrain of Chery brand in the future. At this stage, this combination will be equipped with Chery 1.5T dual-clutch gearbox. As for its fuel consumption, we will evaluate it for you at the first time.
Editor’s comment:
From the perspective of thermal efficiency, Chery has indeed made progress this time. Although there is still a certain gap between the thermal efficiency of 37.1% and other brands, I believe it still has room for improvement, at least technically. On March 21st, Chery will officially announce the engine with one of the best thermal efficiency among China brands, and we will go to the scene to participate in the report, so please pay attention.
