Interview with the Behind-the-scenes of Dragon and Tiger Master: They make movies with their lives!

Special feature of 1905 film network More than 60 years ago, at No.17-19 Beihai Street, China, the earliest batch of "Dragon and Tiger Martial Masters" gathered in history.

In some action films, when the subtitles are scrolled at the end of the film, the audience will be reminded of the difficult stunt scenes and the injured scenes behind the scenes. Apart from Jackie Chan, many people who do these actions are dragon and tiger martial artists, and Jackie Chan was originally a dragon and tiger martial artist.

This is a special type of work created by Hong Kong films. They entered the film industry from the field of traditional Chinese opera and martial arts, and they are a group of people who are engaged in the most thrilling life, showing the most technical content and the most difficult movements in martial arts. They worked hard for action movies and audiences, and from 1960s to 1980s, they worked together with Hong Kong action movies to create their peak.

Many dragon and tiger martial artists stand behind the radiant "Big Brother", or take the lead to try the most dangerous moves for them, or be body double for the superstars, or be "trampled" and "beaten" to the ground in the film.

Evaluation, "what they did before, no one can do it in the future." Nowadays, some people have transformed into actors, and some have been promoted to martial arts directors and action film directors, but most of them have left the scene because of their age and injuries.

With the release of the film, everything recorded in the lens allows us to pay attention to this group of "unprecedented, unprecedented" martial artists, and also to continue to understand the current young generation of action stuntmen and their living conditions.

That’s for life!

The film begins with the birth of the Dragon and Tiger Martial Arts Master, and leads the audience back to the golden age of Hong Kong action movies and their behind-the-scenes fighting history.

Starting with the spread from the North to the South, the four major drama schools in Hong Kong have cultivated the "Seven Little Fucks" represented by Jackie Chan, Wang Zi, Wang Zi and so on, the apprentices represented by Wang Zi, Wang Zi and so on, the apprentices from the Oriental Drama School, and Ma Chengzhi and so on.

They entered the film circle as martial artists after their studies in primary school drama. With the arrival of the times, they improved the style of action movies and United a group of dragon and tiger martial artists. After Bruce Lee’s death, Hong Kong action movies fell into a short low tide, and then Liu Jiaban, Hong Jiaban, Cheng Jiaban and Yuan Jiaban, four major action teams, rose up and competed with each other to jointly support the glory of Hong Kong action movies.

When Hollywood entered the era of high-tech and industrialization in the late 1970s, Hong Kong action filmmakers could only get rid of gravity, constantly use their own flesh and blood to go beyond the limit, and create more dangerous and unusual actions, more realistic and exciting visual images, so as to win the favor of the audience and resist the impact of Hollywood visual blockbusters.

China people are proud of the history created by the Dragon and Tiger Martial Masters. Tsui Hark said, "Because they have proved one thing, what we can do is something that other countries and cultures can’t do, even Hollywood should pay tribute to us!"

Tsui Hark praised the Dragon and Tiger Martial Master.

There are many behind-the-scenes stories of Wyndell Dichinson Yau Tsim Mong, a martial artist of Dragon and Tiger, which are not known to the public. They are revealed one by one in the movies.

For example, in the movie, we saw Bruce Lee fighting with one enemy and one hundred soldiers, but some difficult somersaults were actually done by his body double.

Bruce Lee used to be body double Yuan Wah.

Jackie Chan created a classic action scene in which he jumped from the 15m-high bell tower. However, when shooting, he experienced a tortuous process that Jackie Chan was not satisfied with his first jump, and changed martial arts teacher Mars to be body double, but the effect was not good, and Jackie Chan jumped again with injury.

The bamboo ladder war in the warehouse is praised by people. In the picture, the martial arts movements are flowing and hearty, but in the actual shooting, Jet Li was unable to shoot this drama because of injury, and the main movements were done by the martial artist for him.

In the past, in order to bring forth the old and bring forth the new, Sammo Hung challenged eight martial artists to fall from the seventh floor at the same time, and eventually there was an accident of overlapping people, and some people broke their legs.

Also in "Heart of the Dragon", there is a scene in which the glass window is broken from the third floor, and then falls on the tent, and then falls on the roof of the car. However, when shooting, the window is broken so hard that it doesn’t directly land through the tent, and it is almost hit by the front of the car, and the stuntman almost dies.

In the film produced by Sammo Hung, there is a scene in which the actor falls directly from a tall building to the skating rink, and the actor is covered in blood.

These stunts hovering on the edge of death are all "death squads" generals from Hong Jiaban. He recalled in the film and said with emotion, "It was all for life!"

Stuntmen, never said no, it is these bold and adventurous predecessors, the hero jack, who reached the limit of the physical body with countless blood and sweat, and completed the action scene of "who does and who dies" in our view now, which will not be possible.

Heroes are not allowed to see each other.

"Dragon and Tiger Martial Master" is mainly edited by filmmakers, film clips and behind-the-scenes tidbits. The director revealed to the 1905 film network that he originally wanted to follow the daily life of several dragon and tiger martial masters, but he was rejected without exception.

Wei Junzi was confused at first. "Later, I finally understood that this group, the Dragon and Tiger Master, has a dignity, and this dignity is called’ No heroes can meet each other’. They will always show their most heroic side. They will not show you their so-called unbearable side, such as being down and out, or being hurt. "

Four years ago, Wei Junzi went to the Hong Kong Action Stunt Union to attend the Spring Tea Reception. When he met many martial artists he had admired for a long time, the president told him that these predecessors were not so glamorous on the surface, and they all had a bad life and lacked outside attention, which prompted Wei Junzi to devote himself to creating this film.

In the heyday of action movies, the income of dragon and tiger martial artists is not low, and the money they can earn in a month is about ten times that of white-collar workers. As a martial artist, the director invited him to be the leading actor. John Chiang didn’t sign the contract at first. He thought that he could earn 150 yuan when he was a body double, but he only got 500 yuan a month when he was a leading actor. It was better to be body double.

"At that time, the income of the dragon and tiger martial artists in the martial arts was the highest, because they were all hard. They are spending money now. Basically, they are drunk today, and they don’t know how to save money. When they get old, they fall into a pain because of filming. Moreover, they learn martial arts from primary schools, and their overall cultural level is not very high. As they get older, the situation is not so good. "

There is no insurance for the Dragon Tiger Martial Master when filming. Wei Zijun said, "No company is willing to give them insurance. Their insurance is their big brother. If you are injured, your leg is broken, that is, your big brother will support you. This is a kind of mutual trust."

With the decline of the local film market in Hong Kong, special effects technology has been integrated into the types of real kung fu films and real action films, and the generation of Dragon and Tiger Martial Arts has become old and its career has changed, and this special profession has almost disappeared.

The egg at the end of the film pays special tribute to Ching-Ying Lam. Wei Junzi thinks that Ching-Ying Lam is the "king" of the Dragon and Tiger Martial Arts: he is the right-hand man of the Bruce Lee era and the core of the Hongjiaban era, and he has successfully transformed from a Dragon and Tiger Martial Arts Master to an actor, creating a classic series.

A generation of martial artist Ching-Ying Lam.

"At that time, his social status was very high, but he could still do body double and throw himself like that. What spirit is this? How dedicated. " Near the end of the film, a sentence that Ching-Ying Lam said to the director when shooting was displayed — — Take it slowly until it’s done.

The hard work and the professional attitude of "shooting until it’s done" by the martial artists of Dragon and Tiger have influenced filmmakers, and the younger generation should bear it in mind.

Listen to the sound of our martial arts.

"Dragon and Tiger Martial Masters" rise and fall with the tide of history, and their vein has not been interrupted, and their fighting spirit is still endless like a torch. As shown in the film, the Hong Kong Action Acrobatics Union will hold regular training courses to train new talents, and the martial arts schools in the Mainland will also send a large number of action talents to the industry.

A young girl named Chen Zhuyin is highlighted in the film. She resolutely gave up the high salary of the Secretary-General and devoted herself to the stunt industry in body double. She was trained in the advanced training class of the Hong Kong stunt performers’ union for four months and studied under the Dragon and Tiger Martial Arts Master, which was deeply encouraged by her predecessors.

Action stuntman Chen Zhuyin

Chen Zhuyin told 1905 Film Network that she admired Hong Kong action movies since she was a child and was good at all kinds of sports, fine arts in high school and literature in college. After graduating from National Taiwan University, she worked as an office worker for several years. Later, under the guidance of a martial arts instructor, she turned her interest into a career and became a professional action body double. "At that time, I almost arranged the actress’s action scenes in Taiwan Province local dramas," she said.

Two years later, Chen Zhuyin went to Hong Kong, and the martial artist from Zhang Che and the martial artist from the adult class took her into the Hong Kong film and television industry. After that, she successfully joined the film group, and this year she came to the mainland for development. Recently, she just finished filming and starred in a new film in Yunnan, and acted as the heroine’s action body double.

"Believe in your talents, your potential, your body and your will." Chen Zhuyin said that this is the spiritual belief given to her by the Dragon and Tiger Martial Arts Master.

She is in awe of the Dragon and Tiger Martial Masters. In her study, training and work, she has heard many thrilling past events in which their lives were suspended for a moment when they were young: some martial masters’ predecessors fell seriously after hitting the glass and jumping off the building because the glass cut the safety net; Some martial artists were caught by cars and walls and their pelvis was injured; There are martial artists who shoot blasting scenes, and the fragments are blown into the body, leaving sequelae … "This kind of story of predecessors is endless, but everyone has no chance to know it, or it is only circulated in our industry."

If we say that in the past, the Dragon and Tiger Martial Arts Division was more supported by the friendship between the master and the brothers, personal heroism and the indomitable spirit of peer competition in those days, and now the younger generation’s stunt body double is more like Chen Zhuyin, because he insisted on engaging in such dangerous work with a movie dream or a performance dream.

Chen Zhuyin and his peers’ action stunt shooting scene

"Because my predecessors recognize my ability and are willing to give me the opportunity, I will try my best to do my best. I have a passion and yearning for martial arts, sports and adventure. At the same time, I want to be a storyteller, just in the form of action, hoping to become a film creator and cultural communicator in the future. "

Today’s action stuntmen don’t need to risk their lives every time, like the Dragon and Tiger Martial Masters, and use their own physical body to create action selling points. In the modern film industry system, they have more security for jumping, jumping and beating.

However, Chen Zhuyin, who has been in the business for eight years, still sees some problems in this industry. "I heard some colleagues tell us that online dramas, in particular, often start working for twenty or thirty hours without rest, and the risk factor of body double itself is very high, and it is necessary to cope with such a long shooting time, because fatigue increases the risk." She even heard that some crews didn’t insure Action body double to save costs, or gave them money for one play to shoot two plays.

Chen Zhuyin appealed, "I hope everyone can pay attention to us and listen to the voice of our martial arts. It is not only the so-called struggle and fearlessness to let young people invest in this industry, but also to play in a more orderly, sound and safer working environment and better promote our China films to the whole world. This is also my dream, so I will want to continue to struggle in this industry."

In the past, the Dragon and Tiger Martial Masters were unsung heroes, who suffered the most and suffered the most, and let the world see the best action movies. Nowadays, there are many new stunt performers, who are passed down from generation to generation. They are also looking for a better performance stage, and continue to exert momentum and spell out wonderful works for China films.
